Deftones’ third album, White Pony, was a line in the sand for the band. Where previous record Around The Fur had expanded their nu-metal credentials, White Pony saw them taking a different route, and arriving at the other end a better band for it.

It would also go on to create one of their most controversial moments, when their label Maverick decided to re-release White Pony shortly after it had come out. This was done in order to include by far their worst song, the abhorrent Back To School (Mini Maggit). The song was a calculated move by the band to have a hit single after the label said White Pony didn’t have any radio-friendly songs. Chino Moreno later said "'Back to School' was a mistake. A calculated song, that had been built up with only one aim in mind: It should be a single. ... 'Back to School' was released because I was an idiot. I thought: 'I'm gonna show those f***ers how easy it is to create a hit-single.' And so I rapped a hip hop part on Pink Maggit, we shortened it and half an hour later, the hit-single was ready to roll on."

On that re-release, Back To School shoved original album opener Feiticeira into second position, negating the track’s thrilling no-nonsense explosion of noise. Incidentally, the song’s title is a Portuguese word for witch, and is inspired by Brazilian actress Joana Prado who played a character of the same name.
