1. Jay-Z The Great Gatsby (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Getting a relatively new band to score a Hollywood blockbuster is one thing, getting one of the most recognizable names in rap to score a period piece based off a timeless novel is another. It was recently announced that Hip Hop superstar, Jay-Z, had been chosen to do an original score for Baz Luhrmanns (Moulin Rouge!) adaptation of The Great Gatsby. The film contains an impressive cast including Leonardo DiCaprio (Inception) as Jay Gatsby. Jay-Z has had experience with film soundtracks before. After seeing an early cut of the crime drama American Gangster starring Denzel Washington, he made an album based on the film. The Great Gatsby is one of the most anticipated releases of the year and Jay-Zs involvement makes it the most noteworthy hip-hop release as well. He hasnt released a solo album since 2009s The Blueprint 3, and The Great Gatsby score might be his only release of the year. Even if you are not a fan of Baz Luhrmanns over the top directing style, Jay-Z score alone might make the movie worth seeing.
