10 Most Expensive Music Videos Ever Made

6. 'Black Or White' - Michael Jackson

Cost: $4m ($7.5m with inflation)

Release: 1991

If you've ever wanted to see Michael Jackson use his crotch to play air guitar, then this is the music video for you. In all seriousness, MJ's pop icon status was secured long before he fed his 'Dangerous' album to the world in 1991. That album's lead single, 'Black Or White' was a neatly-packed commentary on racial harmony.

It also had a memorable intro starring Macaulay Culkin.

The 6:22 length is just short enough that viewers wouldn't get bored watching, and just long enough that MTV executives must've been happy. Jackson was gold in the early-90s, and kids around the globe were still smarting from his red-hot 'Moonwalker' movie from three years prior.

What a riff. What a chorus. What a video.
