10 Most Hated Classic Rock Albums (From Great Bands)
1. Two Virgins - John Lennon And Yoko Ono
Given the Beatles' star power in the 60's, John Lennon could have released whatever kind of music he wanted and it would have sold. After finding his future soulmate in artist Yoko Ono, Lennon decided to test that theory with an album of experimental music and an offensive cover to boot.
Instead of making a grand artistic piece, Two Virgins is the sound of Lennon and Ono documenting their love affair, as they stayed up into the early hours of the morning recording some of this record. Even for Beatles fans who like more off-the-wall material like "Revolution 9," this tends to be a difficult listen, with constant noisy feedback and off-handed moans being just the beginning of bizarre sounds on this record.
To test the boundaries of the promotional material, Lennon decided to have the cover be of both him and Ono naked in the camera frame. With the record label rushing to censor the graphic images, the album was quickly lambasted by Beatles fans as a sign that Lennon had lost his mind. While Lennon and Ono's collaborations would continue with various degrees of success in their solo careers, this initial offering was the most shocking material to come out the greatest rock band in the world.
