10 Most Hated Classic Rock Albums (From Great Bands)

7. Hot Space - Queen

Everything seemed to be on the upswing for Queen at the start of the 80's. After defining the 70's hard rock sound with their operatic masterpieces, their transition into pop with "Another Bites the Dust" made them a band worth paying attention to for a long time. With the new release previewed with their David Bowie duet "Under Pressure," most fans expected Hot Space to be nothing but spectacular.

Though "Under Pressure" has still held up to this day, the rest of this album feels like the band trying their best to incorporate dance music into their sound. Songs like "Back Chat" and "Staying Power" have that same dance beat that their previous smash had, but not with the same type of urgency or hookiness. When the band steps away from the dance music emulations, the album is actually pretty decent, like the beautiful John Lennon tribute "Life is Real."

Hot Space was the band at a creative lull, with even Roger Taylor bad mouthing some of the songs soon after the album was put out. This record may have been considered decent by the pop standards of the time, but the band's classic rock fans definitely left this outing feeling short-changed.
