10 Most Hated Classic Rock Albums (From Great Bands)
6. Just Push Play - Aerosmith
Aerosmith hold the title of pulling off the greatest comebacks in rock history. The band were virtually DOA after Joe Perry's exit left them without their star guitarist, leaving the rest of the band to nearly flounder into drug abuse without him. With their collaboration with Run-DMC on "Walk This Way" blowing up on MTV, the band became darlings of the music video generation.
While they weathered the waters of grunge beautifully, something strange began to happen as they reached the end of the millennium. The band's collaborations with outside songwriters was fruitful at first, but it got into ridiculous territory by the time of Just Push Play. That rough and tumble band from Boston we got to know on albums like Toys in the Attic were replaced with a squeaky clean pop rock sound.
There are some captivating melodies on the first half of this record, but the sound feels so much more jarring coming from Steven Tyler's mouth. This album did see a fair bit of success in its time, but a good look back show that this record has a lot more flaws than some fans were willing to admit. Aerosmith finally had a bit of the pop success they initially craved, but Just Push Play shows that it didn't come without a price.
