10 Most Hated Classic Rock Songs (From Great Bands)
8. Door To Door - Creedence Clearwater Revival
By the time Creedence Clearwater Revival got to the early 70's, they had reached the end of the line. With rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty already AWOL after spats with his brother John, the band was widdled down to a trio for their final release Mardi Gras. To add insult to injury, the band thought that this would be a good time for John to let go of songwriting duties and let the other members take a crack at writing tunes of their own.
While not everything on Mardi Gras is bad, "Door to Door" is a song that should have never made it past the first draft. Written and sung by bassist Stu Cook, the song is a mindless foray into the life of a traveling salesman who sells different accessories that you'll buy and eventually forget about. This song could have been remedied by a decent vocal performance, but Cook does what sounds like an unflattering impression of John Fogerty's gravelly voice, which makes for one of the most annoying moments on the record.
This song can be enjoyed if only for its shock value, but the sad reality behind it is the greatest swamp rock band in the world barely able to cobble together a coherent tune.
