10 Most Hated Grunge Albums Of All Time
4. No Code - Pearl Jam
From the day Pearl Jam got underway, life was never really that easy. Despite making some of the biggest waves on the grunge scene, each of the members were harboring some deep internal pain, whether it was the struggle to continue without Mother Love Bone singer Andy Wood or Eddie Vedder coming to grips with his troubled family life. So...what happens when you take a group of people already at their wit's end and throw them into the onslaught of fame so quickly?
With every single member not on the same page after launching into the mainstream, No Code is the one moment where Vedder completely took the reins. Determined to make this record as impersonal as possible, a lot of these faux rock art projects seem to work much more as concepts than actual grunge rock bangers. If that sounds a little suspect for a Pearl Jam release, that's exactly the point, with Vedder even anticipating losing fans with this record.
After some of the questionable material that was found on the previous release Vitalogy, this is what caused a lot of mainstream listeners to get completely turned off by Pearl Jam, opting to go for the pop punk scene or the beginnings of nu metal. Pearl Jam may not have wanted to get famous in one fell swoop, but this retread put their careers as rock stars on shaky ground.
