1. Limp Bizkit
There have been a lot of musicians throughout rock's tenure who have been seen as jerks. While it may be seen as rock stardom going to their head, these musicians seem to be absorbed in their own bubble with little regard for anyone else. When it comes to these kind of musicians, Fred Durst seems to be in his own separate league.
It's a shame considering the foundation behind Limp Bizkit is actually pretty good. Wes Borland's guitar tone is one of the best to come from nu metal and DJ Lethal's beats both in the band and with House of Pain produced some really great stuff. Instead of layering a great vocal performance, Fred Durst seems content to use every Limp Bizkit as an excuse to whine and complain about his own problems. These range from mocking other artists, talking himself up, or going back to being treated badly in high school.
Durst was definitely not the first person to use his songs as a complaining platform, but he certainly had a hand in making it insufferable to listen to. Add to that the inciting of a riot at 1999 Woodstock and writing lyrics about relating to the Columbine shooters and you have a recipe sure to stir up bad blood with anyone. Get over it and turn the dial.
