10 Most Hated Hard Rock Bands Of All Time
2. Nickelback
If you're looking for an easy target for why rock was dying in the 2000's, many people line up to single out Nickelback. From every corner of the globe, it always seemed like this band was the reason the rock scene couldn't nab a decent footing in social relevancy anymore. But what was it that made them so pitiable?
At their start, the band seemed promising with their debut the State having some genuine hooks on it. Once the band signed to a major label and started getting royalties, they decided to take the easy way out and right some of the most generic pop rock hooks that the genre could muster. While the songs do have a decent enough structure to them, frontman Chad Kroeger has gone on record as trying to crib his ideas from other artists to try to see success.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with trying to make money doing what you love, but the way Nickelback presents their work makes it feel like they're performing because it's an easy way to get rich, which is infuriating for people who see rock as a lifestyle rather than a paycheck. The meme slogging the band has gotten has been overblown, but it would be stretching to say they haven't deserved any of the flak thrown their way.
