10 Most Hated Hard Rock Bands Of All Time

8. Styx

Styx has been one of the few anomalies of the hard rock world throughout their 70's glory days. Throughout seeing great success with albums like The Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight, the only consistent part of their musical career seemed to be the vitriol the band would receive from critics.

Sure, they've had their more generic spots, but where's all the hate coming from? Guitarist JY Young's insane fretwork across the band's hits like "Renegade" are more than enough to give them the edge they need while Tommy Shaw's songwriting prowess is a bright eclectic mix of hard rock, folk, and pop.

Sounds good so far, but it get more spotty when talking about Dennis DeYoung's contributions. DeYoung was the mastermind behind Styx with a grand vision for what he wanted the band to be. This resulted in songs that sounded plodding, corny, and other words that have no place being in the same sentence as rock and roll. After years of ruling with an iron fist, DeYoung was sent packing in the early 90's, leaving the best of the band still intact ever since. The band may not be in their prime anymore, but their ability to ignite the live stage has not dwindled with or without their former frontman.
