10 Most Hated Hard Rock Songs (From Great Bands)

4. Nightlife - Green Day

Green Day probably isn't the first band you think of when it comes to hard rock. Regardless of their more mainstream rock moments, the band had some genuinely great riffs across their 90's catalog. As the band started to roll out their trilogy of albums, many people's ears perked up when it was revealed the second installment would be a move towards garage rock territory.

While fans were expecting something different out of these pop punk brats, absolutely no one saw "Nightlife" coming. Instead of being a call back to garage rock saviors like Iggy Pop and the MC5, this song was a lethargic slice of rap rock, with a backing track that sounded like it should be playing in the middle of a back-alley Vegas lounge. The hook is so tedious, with Billie Joe Armstrong sounding like he's about to either overdose or pass out once the tape stops rolling.

Aside from the chorus though, the rest of the song is sung by Lady Cobra, whose sexually-driven lyrics sound more off-putting than arousing. While the entire trilogy has been scornfully lambasted as the worst that Green Day has to offer, it's not like there's any real argument when you have songs like this.
