10 Most Hated Musicians Of All Time
5. U2
Reason: Too Preachy
At the end of the '80s, there was no mistaking U2 for anyone else. Coming off the massive album the Joshua Tree, the next few years would see many music fans herald these Irish lads as the future of rock, with Bono as our next messianic rock star. Though there's no shame in that if you are that good, U2 seem to have no trouble using this pedestal to their advantage.
Over the years, there have been countless moments when Bono has put his foot in his mouth for one reason or another, oftentimes bringing politics into the realm to suit his lyrical inspiration. Whereas most of the band's album Achtung Baby was about shaking off the more extravagant parts of their personality, the live album Rattle and Hum is still a harsh watch for any music fan, as Bono does almost everything he can to put his band up there with the legends of rock before they've even had the chance to become legends.
Even as they've entered the next generation, U2 has still found ways to infuriate their fans, whether it be not delivering kickass music on albums like No Line on the Horizon to basically forcing their music upon you with the rollout for their album Songs of Innocence. No matter how many fashionable sunglasses you put on, Bono, the only thing that can stop the pretentiousness is you.
