10 Most Hilariously Bad Albums Ever Made
1. Philosophy of the World - The Shaggs
Not every band who makes a clunker of an album has the same story behind them. While some of these records were slated to fail from the outset, others may have just run into a snafu that they just couldn't overcome by the time they released their tapes. Then you have Philosophy of the World, which stands as a miracle as to how it even got made at all.
Compared to the passion projects that we've seen thus far, the Shaggs came together at the insistence of the band members' father, who was given a premonition that his daughters would lead a successful musical group. Only problem was...none of them could really play their instruments all that well. Across every song on here, this feels like amateur hour, as instruments routinely get out of sync with one another, blasts of noise is heard, and the ladies' attempts to sing fall on the wrong side of listenable most of the time.
It's not like this doesn't have it's fans though, with Kurt Cobain calling this one of his favorite albums and Frank Zappa singing the praises of the band as far back as the '70s. For as laughable as this may seem on the surface, this just goes to show you that one listener's trash could be another's treasure if you look for it.
