10 Most Infamous Shows In Rock History
6. Green Day At Woodstock '94
Comparing the original Woodstock to Woodstock '94 is almost like chalk and cheese. Being almost nothing like the peace and love fests of the '60s, the lineup on display her was a lot meaner, catering to acts like Nine Inch Nails and the Red Hot Chili Peppers rather than the classic rock of old. However, the real sight to behold was Green Day, who used the horrible weather to their advantage.
Just like the old Woodstock, this performance was practically a wash-out from the very beginning, with the farmland quickly descending into muddy territory. As the pop punk titans tore through much of their cuts from Dookie, the crowd started to get antsy by throwing mud onto the stage while they played. For any other act, this would be cause for being boo'd off the stage. Not so with Green Day.
In the midst of Paper Lanterns, Billie Joe Armstrong up'd the ante by hurling the mud back at his audience, culminating in one of the biggest fights between band and crowd in the '90s. Though most of it was fun, it didn't go so well when fans started to storm the stage, with Mike Dirnt being beaten by a security guard after confusing him for a stage crasher. For as much notoriety that came from this one show, this was what helped put Green Day on the map as not just your average pop rock act.
