10 Most Innovative Rock Acts Of The 2010s

7. Mac DeMarco

Mac 'Marmite' DeMarco... , you either love him or you hate him. Whatever your opinion is on this guy, you have to appreciate the way he's been able to carve out a unique sound that is unmistakably his.

Going back to move forward, would be the way to describe DeMarco's approach to making music. Instead of pulling in the most cutting edge of recording technology, DeMarco stripped things down with vintage analogue tape decks and a bunch of second hand instruments, all in various states or repair.

But far from sounding overtly dated, his music became a contemporary form of '50s surfer music for sofa stoners and sitting dwelling hipsters. As his sound has progressed it's become ever more mellow (if that was possible).

Taking on a persona of a kind of sleazy-skater, Frank Sinatra, DeMarco is more inclined to release an album of slacker love ballads these days, but damn are they perfect for a lazy Sunday.

The only negative fall out to this guys popularity, was every other indie act in town trying to emulate his reverb heavy sound...
