10 Most Legendary Horrible Gigs In Rock Music History
6. Eagles Benefit Concert
As the hippie movement slowly started to fade away after the '60s, the California rock scene started to get a lot more mellow than before. Even with the darker acts like the Doors still rising to prominence, the attention was geared more towards singer songwriters, looking to bask in the California sunshine until the end of their days. This kind of music almost exists outside of any form of anger, which makes the dissolution of the Eagles all the more shocking.
Despite having some of the most carefree music of the decade on records like Hotel California, the beginning of the next decade saw the band at each other's throats, getting more and more passive aggressive about Don Henley and Glenn Frey getting a more prominent role in the band. Everything might have faded away when they took to the stage, but a benefit for Senator Alan Cranston was the last straw for Don Felder. After overhearing Felder make a dismissive comment to the Senator before he went up to speak, Glenn Frey was livid, still seething with anger when they took to the stage.
Although they were still able to make it through the set, you can also hear some of the audio from that night, with Frey and Felder threatening to kick each other's ass the moment that they get off stage. There were no fisticuffs to be had afterwards, but as Felder sped away in his limo after the gig, it became clear that one of the most successful acts in the world had grinded to a halt.
