10 Most Over-Hated Rock Albums Of All Time

9. One Hot Minute - Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are normally talked about as veterans of the alternative movement. While their early efforts with Hillel Slovak found a funk niche audience, it wasn't until John Frusciante joined after Slovak's death that the world started to really pay attention. However, Frusciante's sudden departure after the success of their breakthrough Blood Sugar Sex Magik ended up throwing the band for a loop.

With a torturous recording process and Anthony Kiedis falling off the wagon, the fanbase was quick to pass on One Hot Minute. New guitarist Dave Navarro was almost universally panned as not the right fit for the band and the songs didn't have the fun pep that you come to the Chilis for.

There are some fair arguments there, but the different tone of this album is actually one of its biggest strengths. The more dour tone of these tracks gives the band room to touch on more poignant topics like religion on "Shallow be Thy Game" along with some of its heaviest material on "Warped." Even Navarro's leads are some of the most furious lines ever to be found on any of the band's records. While fans may have felt underwhelmed at the time, the quality behind One Hot Minute hinted at what the band could have been like without Frusciante behind the six-string.
