10 Most Overhated Bands In Rock
7. Aerosmith
Ever since they started in the early 70's, Aerosmith has always had a firm grip on hard rock music. Throughout their classic run, they created some staples of the genre from the proto power ballad "Dream On" to the swagger of songs like "Sweet Emotion." On the other hand, Aerosmith have gotten a fair bit of hate at both the earliest and latest points of their career.
Back when they were finding their sound, the rapport between Steven Tyler and Joe Perry was too similar to the Rolling Stones for many people to bare. There may have been some Stonesy moments in the band's history, but their mix of a funky groove in between the riffs gave the band a different edge. Instead of the typical blues outfits the Stones would take on, these guys were becoming the heaviest swing band you've ever heard, with horn sections being replaced with guitar riffs.
Once the band reached the late 90's though, they got an equal amount of flak for going too commercial on records like Just Push Play. Though there are certainly arguments to be made about Aerosmith's catalog as a whole, there's no denying the power that the band's classic material has.
