10 Most Overhated Bands In Rock
5. Rush
In the grand scheme of prog rock bands, Rush deserves a spot amongst the greatest to ever play in an odd time signature. With their grandiose musical epics and casual redefinitions of the prog genre, the band launched a slew of different bands who were into something as heavy as Led Zeppelin and as complicated as Genesis. Though the band are called legends now, many rock fans had very harsh things to say about this Canadian power trio.
Given the band's penchant for more complex song structures, many potential fans were turned off and wanted to get back to the normal hard rock of bands like Bad Company and Foreigner. A few relative cheap shots at the band usually had to do with Geddy Lee's voice, whose high-end scream was compared to the shrill sounds of a dying animal. Another big one is the band getting called out for being a "nerd rock" band based on their weighty song topics.
However, time has been a lot kinder to Rush....and to nerds in general. Whereas some of the other hard rock bands sound dated by today's standards, Rush has carved out one of the most loyal fanbases in the music business, whose addiction to the band knows no bounds. Call them what you want, but Rush is always going to be considered a legendary band regardless of what any nerd basher has to say about it.
