10 Most Overhated Bands In Rock
3. Slipknot
Ever since its first stumbles into existence, many rock fans were quick to point out the silliness behind the nu metal scene. Given the serious topics coming from the grunge scene a few years earlier, the last thing we needed was metal music as told by the sophomoric teenagers of the world. Though Slipknot often get singled out as having the worst trappings of the scene, their music was always something much darker.
While there is certainly an argument to be made about the band's insistence to wear masks onstage, the music behind these 9 metalheads was some of the strongest that the late 90's had to offer. Sure, the band's debut record may sound a little basic when compared to a band like Tool, but once they hit Iowa, they had become one of the hardest acts in the world of metal.
Though the band have tinkered with more melodic passages in their sound, their ability to write coherent songs has only strengthened, with recent albums like We Are Not Your Kind being some of the highest quality ragers in the past few years. Slipknot may still get hate for being 9 maniacs onstage, but all of that fades away once you are bludgeoned by their music.
