10 Most Overhated Bands In Rock
2. U2
U2 is a band known more nowadays for their non musical pursuits rather than their actual songs. For as firm a grasp as they had on the music industry in the 80's, the band has gotten a reputation as a bloated relic of the 80's, with Bono being one of the more preachy frontmen in the rock pantheon. Though the band does have their moments of infamy, are we just going to ignore all the great stuff they gave us?
Throughout the 80's, the band created some of the most awe-inspiring tracks of the rock era, combining new wave and post punk sounds with a rock ethos that was impossible to resist. Across albums like The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, the band hit upon some of the most massive sounds of the era, with songs that could touch your heart like "One" and "With or Without You."
Does Bono's political insistence wear on people's nerves? Absolutely. However, listening to a song like "Where the Streets Have No Name" is such a transcendent experience that any other non-musical cringiness just fades from view. There's plenty of reasons to despise U2, but the masterpieces they have given us are able to win over even the most jaded music fans.
