10 Most Overrated Metal Bands Of All Time
8. Attila
It's hard to really fault a metal band for sounding dangerous and scary in their presentation. Since that's practically the reason why acts like Black Sabbath found their calling in the first place, why not make music that's designed to push the boundaries of what's okay and make people a little riled up every now and again? It's certainly respectable, but no one really told the guys in Attila that shock value has diminishing returns.
Ever since their debut, the only string to Attila's bow is just trying to get you worked up, either through their own problems or them bragging about how cool they are. From one song to the next, it's pretty much interchangeable with what Chris Fronzak is going to say, sounding either like he's jealous of other bands or just being too insufferable to actually take seriously for more than a few seconds.
It would be one thing if it was just for a handful of albums, but that's not what they did, did they? For the past decade, metal fans have given these guys a pass for having serviceable musicianship behind a man who hasn't shown an ounce of growth in his lyric writing or sense of maturity when they play live. Whereas most bands can at least grow up with class, Attila may be one of the few bands that have actively devolved since their inception.
