8. Frankly Mr. Shankly - The Smiths
For every single Smiths song that's been released, you can never dock them points of not giving enough emotion. Whether it's sarcasm or just some jaded love gone wrong, Morrissey never was one to pull his punches, and always made sure you knew how he felt about whatever he was singing about by the end of the song. And after having some choice words for the monarchy on The Queen is Dead, we got a taste of what his life before the Smiths was like on Frankly Mr. Shankly.
Being mostly a first hand account of Morrissey's days before being a singer, this is a story of him talking to his former boss, giving him a few choice words that he probably wanted to give him for years. From the first time he opens his mouth, you can hear the snark through his words, talking about how the job he's working with is tearing away at his soul with every single hour he puts in.
There are even a few cheap shots here and there that are a bit on the nose, like when he points out that his former boss wrote poetry, which is...let's say below average by Morrissey's standards for prose. He's even confident that his boss is not even going to miss him when he's gone, thinking that he was just a nuisance anyway. It doesn't matter though, because Morrissey claims to be going down in musical history. To be fair, he definitely called his shot and measured up to it.
