7. Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle - Nirvana

As Kurt Cobain started to write the basis of what would become In Utero, he was already in a pretty dark place. The mantle of fame that came with the success with Nevermind was more than most people could bare, and here we had a guy who shunned fame having to deal with the paparazzi being around him 24/7. There comes a time when you're going to need a break, and Kurt found an outlet by taking a shot at the press directly on Frances Farmer.

Taking the name from an actress from classic Hollywood who also struggled with fame, this is Kurt telling all of those reporters what he really wants to say. Even though the crux of the song is what you'd expect from Nirvana, the sudden jolts of energy from the guitar echo what Kurt is saying the whole way through, mentioning how it makes him feel that much better the minute that the cameras and the microphones in front of him go away.

As funny as this might be to listen to at the time, it also paints a pretty grim picture of what Kurt's emotional state was like as well, saying that he misses the comfort in being sad on the chorus. After all of the press that had come out in the post Teen Spirit world, Kurt wasn't just burnt out. This was a fractured human being that was slowly losing all of his happiness.
