10 Most Successful Rock Music Star Siblings
8. The Abbotts (Dimebag Darrell And Vinnie Paul)
Before they helped re-establish thrash metal in the 1990s, Pantera were a glam metal band. Until Phil Anselmo joined in 1986, the group played music more akin to Kiss and Van Halen and, well, they were a bit of a flop. There's a reason nobody had heard of them before 1990's Cowboys from Hell.
After Anselmo's arrival, things changed dramatically for the better. Pantera would go on to become one of the biggest metal bands in the world, thanks to their infectious "groove metal" style of playing.
The Abbott brothers had been in the band since the glam days. Darrell Lance and Vincent Paul, better known as Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, were on guitar and drums respectively and were the only original members of the band to make the transition to groove metal.
They were cornerstones of the project, especially Dimebag's revolutionary guitar playing style. Without them, the group would have floundered.
Sadly, neither brother is still with us. Dimebag was infamously murdered whilst playing a gig in 2004, whilst Vinnie succumbed to heart issues in 2018.
A sad end to two of metal's biggest stars.
