10 Most Underrated Aerosmith Songs
8. Uncle Salty - Toys In The Attic
Aerosmith's rise to the top was a bit of a slowburn. Whereas their first album did little to set the world on fire even with Dream On in the track listing, they ended up building their following the old fashioned way by playing to fans across the country. By the time Get Your Wings finally went gold, Toys in the Attic arrived and signaled the moment where things really started to get good.
Aside from the more celebrated songs on this album like Walk This Way, Uncle Salty might be one of the more darker cuts these guys have ever written. Set to an almost country-sounding guitar tone, Tyler steps away from the world of sex, drugs, and rock and roll to talk about the troubled life of a girl being orphaned and living from one house to the next.
Even though most of the song has that sort of disgruntled tension across its 4 minutes, the real explosion of the song is inn the second chorus after Tyler's mammoth scream really kicks things into high gear. While the tempo may have slowed down, the actual energy of the track is brought up, as Tyler looks at the optimistic day happening just outside his window. Aerosmith have a nasty habit of being somewhat of a one-trick pony in their prime, but this song was the precursor to the darker material we would find on something like Janie's Got a Gun a few years later.
