10 Most Underrated Aerosmith Songs
7. Let The Music Do The Talking - Done With Mirrors
At the start of the '80s, Aerosmith were pretty much down for the count. After flaming out after the departure of Joe Perry, their followup Rock in a Hard Place cost them another guitar player in Brad Whitford and Steven Tyler nearly succumbing to drug addiction while on tour. However, when Perry and Whitford returned to the fold with Done With Mirrors, things were supposed to be back to normal, right?
When compared to other comeback albums like Permanent Vacation, this still feels like Aerosmith trying to get back into the swing of things. On the other hand, one of Perry's leftovers from his solo career gave us one hell of a rocker on Let The Music Do the Talking. Even though this track did turn up on a proper studio album a few years prior, Steven Tyler's snide vocal delivery and brand new lyrics kick things up a notch, as if that band we came to know back in the '70s never even went anywhere.
Instead of having this be the career resurgence that we were hoping for, this ended up being the last gasp of the straight-ahead blues rock of the group's career, after which they got hooked up with outside songwriters like Desmond Child for their later releases. While Aerosmith definitely had some classics in the back half of their career, it's intriguing what their next era would have sounded like if this became their comeback hit.
