10 Most Underrated Beatles Songs

6. The Fool On the Hill - Magical Mystery Tour

As the Summer of Love started to get into full swing, the Beatles were turning to all different places for inspiration. That meant more exotic musical tastes, different mind expanding drugs, and also more complex topics about the inner self. Even though a lot of fans were turned off by the more mystical element of the Beatles' music, Paul McCartney decided to confront the issue directly on Magical Mystery Tour.

After going to different meetings with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Paul wrote this song to suggest that not every wise guru is as silly as they come across in interviews. Outside of the madcap movie that came with this album, The Fool on the Hill is a lot more delicate and serious, as Paul sings about the man of a thousand voices with no one to actually hear what he is saying.

Considering this was written by the man who was always the fun Beatle, the chorus of this song also takes a pretty dark turn, as the titular fool sees the sun setting on his life and the world spinning around him. Though we do get a few whimsical elements like a recorder solo, it's anyone's guess as to whether this guy will ever actually connect with people. For all we know, he may still be sitting on that hill waiting for someone to listen.
