10 Most Underrated Britpop Albums

5. Sleeper – The It Girl

It may have been the band’s most successful album, but Sleeper are an underrated band in general. Music revisionists rarely mention this fantastic group or this stunning sophomore effort when discussing Britpop, and that’s a crying shame.

Released in 1996, The It Girl is a tour de force in how to create memorable pop compositions, while simultaneously introducing a smorgasbord of other musical influences in a way that sounds natural. Quite a tall task, but one they pull off with supreme aplomb here.

They didn’t exhibit the same brash bravado that the movement’s biggest acts did, but that shouldn’t deter you from embracing their very evident musical ability. There’s a reason why this album is commonly cited as one of the underrated masterpieces of the Britpop era – it really is that good.
