10 Most Underrated Cover Songs In Hard Rock

1. Oh Me - Nirvana

When Nirvana first agreed to perform on MTV's Unplugged, many grunge fans knew they were in for something special. Even more interesting was when the band actually took to the stage, where they played almost an even balance of covers and originals. Though many have singled out their version of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" or the blues standard "Where Did You Sleep Last Night," the more poignant emotions came once they brought out their friends in the Meat Puppets.

Kurt Cobain's unabashed fandom for the band led to him inviting them on to play a couple tunes with them, which resulted in some of the best moments of the night. The real heavy side comes with the performance of "Oh Me," where Cobain's weary voice dominates most of the track. While the song is a Meat Puppets track in name, the lyrics about not having to think and only needing to perform seem to be coming straight from Cobain, the depressed rockstar.

Given that Cobain would eventually kill himself just a few months after this gig, hearing his voice sing "I can see the end of me" gets all the more heart-wrenching. MTV Unplugged will always be one of Nirvana's finest moments, but this song was an ominous look at the darkness which was to follow.
