10 Most Underrated Eminem Songs

3. Rock Bottom - Slim Shady LP

Most of us have only known Em when he was at the top of his game. Before 8 Mile even arrived in the pop consciousness, the sheer shock value of bars were enough to put him in good favor with the youth of America. It might seem fun being on the charts, but you don't get that big without having to suffer your fair share of troubles.

Though the Slim Shady LP feels like just a fun rap album with a few questionable lyrics, Rock Bottom was the first time Shady actually sounded very real. There had definitely been some more violent songs on the album like on Guilty Conscience or If I Had, but most of the affectations in his voice made them sound like they were coming from a messed up cartoon show. As Em details the struggles of his life in poverty, you start to realize that underneath all that punk ass exterior, there's a guy doing everything he can to try to make a life for himself.

There are many people who would have preferred that Em stay in the shadows, but this was his first instance of unmasking his real upbringing to his audience. You may first get drawn in by the more shocking material, but what really ends up sticking around is when an artist talks from the heart.
