10 Most Underrated Eminem Songs

2. Marshall Mathers - Marshall Mathers LP

The rise of Eminem to the top of the charts in the late '90s wasn't something that should have happened on paper. Despite his infectious music and earworm choruses, the idea of having someone this unstable alongside acts like Britney Spears and Fred Durst seemed unheard of at the time. As a matter of fact, the one person who was the most shocked about Em's rise to power was...well...Marshall Mathers.

After putting you through the ringer for most of The Marshall Mathers LP, the (sort-of) title track is where we get a much needed breather. So far, we've been hearing about Eminem's experience with everything from stalkers to record label execs to the legal battles with his mother, but this song is where all that anger starts to fade away. Set to a soothing guitar melody, this is when Eminem checks out of the studio and Marshall takes over, feeling confused about why people treat him differently now that he's famous.

The dynamic of your life is bound to change when you reach heights like this, but Marshall's depiction of the celebrity dynamic paints a beautiful picture of the cold emptiness that comes with getting too big too fast. You may have a ton of people mobbing for your attention now, but inside, this part of the job can be incredibly lonely.
