10 Most Underrated Fall Out Boy Songs
6. Uma Thurman
Twangy, surf-inspired guitar flourishes (that are an unapologetic sampling of the theme song from '60s sitcom The Munsters), a clap-happy backing track for the verses and an all-too-familiar standout vocal performance from Stump makes Uma Thurman a thoroughly entertaining three-and-a-half minutes.
Featured on the somewhat overlooked American Beauty/American Psycho, the song, predictably, is inspired by the Pulp Fiction actress. After the band graciously asked her for permission, Fall Out Boy began work on a tune that is a true highlight of their post-hiatus works.
Frivolous use of its catchy chorus makes Uma Thurman feel somewhat limited lyrically, but the integration of a quirky-yet-effective backing track and polished production value all combine to conjure a Frankenstein's monster of musical styles that never feels too crowded. Uma Thurman is a song that uses its distinct lack of identity as a drawing factor, and as such it feels like a truly unique component of their catalogue.
Like the Hanzo sword in Oren Ishii at the end of Kill Bill Vol 1, Uma Thurman by Fall Out Boy will undeniably be stuck in your head.
