How the hell is all of the great rock music coming from Japan nowadays? Outside of the normal blues rock bands that insist on still being a thing in the States and Europe, the Eastern side of the world has been absolutely killing it with acts that are delivering the most purely concentrated rock out there. If someone like BabyMetal was your entry point to this though, you haven't lived until you've heard Band-Maid.
Once you look past the more gimmicky side of their act like the maid outfits, this is one of the most savage metal bands going right now. Across their past 3 albums, these are letter perfect metal songs with guitar solos that could put any other blues guitarist to shame. And we have to talk about Akane Hirose, who is an absolute monster behind the kit, from shifting the groove on a dime to mixing in complex time signatures every now and again.
If you wanted to nitpick, some of the more snobby rock fans might say that these gals have the problem of not mixing up their sound all that often. But who the hell cares? When you have a formula that works this damn well, there's no reason to want to change.
