10 Most Underrated Female Rock Bands Of All Time

4. The Bangles

Many rock bands who have gone through the '80s probably have a few songs that they would rather forget. Since the disco scene had officially died out, it was time for teased hair, loud riffs, and tracks that somehow aged worse than the leisure suit music that populated Studio 54 just a few years earlier. Out of all the great acts to come out of the scene though, The Bangles pretty much got by untouched by any dated trends.

For any other female rock band, the Bangles should be the textbook definition of how to get by on your own terms. Though people might just know songs like Walk Like an Egyptian and Manic Monday, there are a lot more tuneful material outside of the hits. Their entire album Different Light has some of the greatest slices of power pop to ever come out of the '80s, sounding a lot closer to the joyous sounds of the Byrds than Blondie.

Whereas the public may have forgotten, the rock scene has certainly remembered the Bangles, with Prince remaining close with the band members during their prime and even getting the nod from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to sing backup on songs like Waiting for Tonight. If things had gone differently, these ladies would be so much more than just the prime session musicians of today.
