10 Most Underrated Female Rock Bands Of All Time

3. Sleater Kinney

By the time we reached the late '90s, the punk rock revolution was starting to get a lot more esoteric with what they could say. Since some of the best bands coming out of the scene were people like Bad Religion, it was time for the females to have their say and speak up for what they believed in. Then again, if the name Carrie Brownstein rings a bell as being "that girl from Portlandia," you seriously need to do your homework on Sleater Kinney.

Across 3 decades, this trio has been making some of the most caustic rock and roll ever made, always keeping things tight while sprinkling in bits and pieces of social commentary into the mix. Although some of the Pitchfork punk crowd might regard something like Dig Me Out as their masterpiece, you're selling yourself short if you just stop there, with the Woods and No Cities to Love being some of the best late period music to be released by a punk band.

Outside of the songs, the raw instrumentation behind this group is amazing, having no bassist and relying on Brownstein and Corin Tucker's dueling guitars to provide the raw groove to everything. Compared to punk bands that try their best to sound authentic, this is the equivalent of having a blank slate and using the building blocks of rock and roll to create your art.
