7. The One (2002)
Dave Grohl and Jack Black have had a long friendship. Grohl famously drummed on Tenacious D's debut record, and throughout the 2000s they continued to collaborate, popping up in one another's music videos and guest appearing on albums.
Before Black became a household named with the release of School of Rock (2003) he appeared in the comedy Orange County (2002). Staying true to his image, he played a sleazy deadbeat stoner; it's worth a watch if you enjoy some vintage Jack Black nonsense, but it also has a great soundtrack. In no small part thanks to a Foo Fighters single, which was never officially released on an album.
Put the ridiculously entertaining music video aside, the track brilliant. By this point the group had secured Taylor Hawkins, who first appeared on their 1999 record, There's Nothing Left To Lose. His presence can be felt all over this number - it's ALL about the drums. That's not to take anything away from the guitar riffs, but Hawkins' pounding sticks and relentless foot pedals bring the energy.
