10 Most Underrated Foo Fighters Songs
6. Breakout (1999)
Foo Fighters really hit their stride when it came time to recording a third album. Grohl had finally secured a drummer that could match his own intensity on the kit. Stepping into a band with a lead singer notorious for rerecording drum tracks, is no light undertaking - particularly when said lead singer is also considered one of the greatest stickmen of all time. In Taylor Hawkins, Grohl found someone worthy of the task, however.
Although it didn't take long for Hawkins to prove he had the chops, it was an odd choice, considering he was primarily known as the touring drummer for soft-rocker Alanis Morissette. The change of pace clearly didn't phase him, however. The group's sound was only elevated by the addition of Hawkins, and having a reliable drummer allowed Grohl to focus primarily on his lyric and riff writing. Songs like Breakout marked a changed into a more melodic take on alternative-post-grunge rock.
Although Learn To Fly would become the band's biggest hit from their third record, the fourth single deserves just as much attention.
