10 Most Underrated Foo Fighters Songs
3. Weenie Beenie - Foo Fighters
Dave Grohl may be known as a hit factory nowadays, but there's a lot more to the guy than mainstream rock. If it's any indication through his side projects, the man has one of the most eclectic tastes in music of all of the '90s frontmen, shouting praise to everyone from Bad Brains to ABBA. Of all of his influences though, we got a nice helping of metal on the back half of the Foos' first record.
After being lulled into a dream state on Floaty, we are immediately yanked out of our sleep with Weenie Beenie, complete with one of the most feral guitar sounds on the entire record. Instead of the usual distorted riffs we were used to, this guitar is tuned down incredibly low, with Dave sounding like he is about to pop a blood vessel through his distorted voice effects.
Considering the amount of rock and roll that was coming out around the same time, this was probably Dave's way of mixing the stoner rock of Kyuss with his hardcore punk roots, and the results are absolutely electric. You also have to remember that this is all Dave, with every instrument being played with the same intensity all the way through. While Dave would have never wanted to fly solo, this song at least showed that he had the chops to pull it off.
