10 Most Underrated Glam Rock Songs Of All Time

2. Va Va Va Voom - Brett Smiley

As far as glam rock artists who never quite reached the heights their talent warranted go, Brett Smiley would rank somewhere near the top. The Indiana-born star had been taken under the wing of former Rolling Stones producer Andrew Loog Oldham. His road to stardom had began early, when he was part of the Broadway musical "Oliver". By the time he had been picked up by Oldham and signed to Anchor records, the sky well and truly seemed to be the limit.

Unfortunately all that early promise never came to fruition. Still, we did get at least one absolute gem out of Smiley’s musical career. Va Va Va Voom was his only single, and the song originally meant to catapult Smiley into super stardom.

The song is an intoxicating, glitter strewn ride through everything that made glam rock great. Its manic intensity and sugary lyrics are straight out of a David Bowie classic. Finally, the exclamation point is delivered by Steve Marriott’s guitar work. Smiley’s career deserved more, but hey at least we got this.
