10 Most Underrated Guns N' Roses Songs
9. Pretty Tied Up - Use Your Illusion II
Looking back on it nowadays, the Use Your Illusion records might have been just a little too ambitious for their own good. Considering the band was only a few years old at this point, seeing them going for a full double album experience was like them trying to run before they could walk, especially on the back half of a song like My World. When an experiment did hit that sweet spot though, it was pretty awesome.
Written by Izzy Stradlin, Pretty Tied Up was centered around a dominatrix figure that he knew while on the streets of LA, and it has some of the most warped sounds you will ever hear on a Guns N Roses track. For a band like this, you normally expect something like a few extra guitars in the background, a piano, maybe a organ if we're feeling fancy, right?
Well, this one jumps the shark a little bit by bringing in a full sitar, which was conceived from the beginning when Izzy created a makeshift version of one from stuff that he had laying around the house. And it actually works in the context of the song too, making this dark S&M sequence feel all the more twisted as a result. The entire Illusion project has a few sore spots, but it's almost worth it to have something like this bloom from those sessions.
