10 Most Underrated Guns N' Roses Songs
7. Shackler's Revenge - Chinese Democracy
Even the most die hard Guns N Roses fans can probably tell while people have so much scorn for Chinese Democracy. After years and years of anticipation and mountains of money being spent, making an album that is just halfway decent from Axl and a cast of hired hands was really not worth it. If you take the long wait aside though, there are some shining moments if you know where to look.
Beginning like the start of a horror movie, Shackler's Revenge is one of the darkest songs that you could imagine from Guns N Roses, with Axl sounding like a beast about to be unchained in the first few verses. When you eventually get to the chorus though, the old Axl sounds like he might be back, having a bit more spunk in his voice and a pretty kickass melody to tie everything together.
Then again, this is Chinese Democracy, so it's anyone's guess when and in what state these vocals were recorded, but even that can't take away from the impressive guitar work here as well. Pulling in both Bumblefoot and Buckethead, the midpoint of the song is an absolute shredfest and any guitar fan's dream for a couple of seconds. If most of the other songs on Chinese Democracy went down this road, chances are that the rock community would have been a lot kinder to it.
