10 Most Underrated Hard Rock Frontmen

1. Andrew Wood - Mother Love Bone

At the end of the day, what makes an artist underrated? Regardless of what kind of definition you have, most of these singers deserve to be heard about way more than their present fanbase. It’s one thing to be ignored by the mainstream public throughout your career, but what about when you leave the rock world before you could get famous?

Such is the case for Andrew Wood, the charismatic frontman for Seattle’s hopefuls Mother Love Bone. With a lineup composed of bandmates who would later form Pearl Jam, Andy was every bit the star of the band, with a charisma that rivaled the greatest frontmen in the rock world. Though the band’s sound was somewhere between arena rock and funk rock, the way in which Andy carried himself onstage would make everyone from Steven Tyler to Freddie Mercury proud.

However, that amount of rockstar energy didn’t save Wood from a heroin habit, which ended up becoming his downfall. Shortly before the release of the band’s debut record, Wood died of an overdose, leading the rest of the band to call it a day. Though the sound of grunge would end up sprouting from Seattle just a few months after his death, most of the alternative rock genre lives in the shadow of what Andy Wood could do.
