10 Most Underrated Kanye West Songs

9. School Spirit - The College Dropout

Given all the frenzy that's surrounded him in the past decade, it's hard to really imagine a music industry without Kanye anymore. Even on some of his more lackluster releases over the years, the media firestorm that has followed West around has refused to go away...and probably won't any time soon. On the College Dropout though, Ye was just an underdog looking for his next big shot on School Spirit.

Compared to the other heavy hitters of the bling era, West's dissection of the college system was a breath of fresh air, as he puts a comedic take on the typical education system. Going through every single naysayer that came his way, this entire track feels like a great character study for West, the naive young kid calling his shot before becoming one of the biggest names in music. Centered around an old soul sample from Aretha Franklin, West's production still sounds incredible today, even when going a bit too far into corny territory on some of the later verses.

As far as the rap scene was concerned at the time, this was something that just shouldn't have worked, and yet the weirdness factor alone was enough to have people bobbing their heads to "Alpha step, Omega step." While the pink Polo was a little much, the bars are still raw as hell.
