10 Most Underrated Kanye West Songs

2. Homecoming - Graduation

Looking back on Graduation, it's easy to see it as the weakest of Kanye's college themed albums. Though the pop rap stylings of songs like Stronger and Flashing Lights were a great look for him at the time, it's hard to not see this as just a victory lap for Ye after beating out 50 Cent in terms of raw sales. For every song like Drunk and Hot Girls though, we do have an experiment that works like Homecoming.

Granted, it's not like this was the first time that West had hooked up with a rock singer to sing the hook, given Adam Levine's presence on the intro to Late Registration with Heard Em Say. In terms of a completed song, Homecoming surpasses West's original attempt, with Chris Martin providing the perfect breezy counterpoint to Kanye's ode to the city that raised him.

It's almost deceiving when you realize that Ye has a bit of a complicated relationship with Chicago, looking to not only celebrate his hometown but also right the wrongs that he made when he was a kid as well as point out some of the real life struggles that are still happening in his old neighborhood. While the tone might be a bit happier than usual on a track like this, you can never truly go back to where you came from, can you?
