10 Most Underrated Kanye West Songs

8. Gone

Otis Redding samples and Kanye have always proven to be a magic combination, and this may just be the very best one. The 1965 track is used perfectly with the simple drum beat and playful pianos. However, what makes this song one of the very best in Kanye's career is the lengths he went to in order to achieve the vision he had. There's an entire string section composed of ten violins, four violas and four cellos. This is not the standard for hip hop production in the slightest.

Kanye is at his most playful on this track lyrically. "You sweat her and I ain't talkin bout a Coogi/ You a Big L and I ain't talkin bout Cool J" is one of the best opening set of bars he has written.

Cam'ron is on the hook and he surprisingly works extremely well with the Otis Redding sample, before bursting into an immaculately written verse.

Consequence provides the fourth verse, which interestingly is the darkest verse on the song, but is also the moment the instrumental becomes even more playful and almost whimsical.

Everything that is loved and praised about Late Registration can be found in some way on this one song.
