10 Most Underrated Kanye West Songs
7. Lost In The World
When Justin Vernon and Kanye West get together, it's usually magic and Lost In The World is no exception. It is constructed around a sample of Bon Iver's 2009 track called Woods, although you may not think so initially considering how well it is merged with the rest of the song.
Fundamentally, it is a love song. It addressed the positive and negative things needed to stay in a committed relationship. Without good there is no bad, and vice versa. Listening to this song today is a whole new experience as opposed to when it was released in 2010. The reason for this is the revelation Kanye made about the lyrical content during his headlining Glastonbury set in 2015. He said it began as a poem for his now wife Kim Kardashian, prior to them being in a relationship.
The song now is one of a person who is hopelessly in love with someone. He is lost in this world when he can't be with this person he has fallen in love with.
The double meaning in "Lost in the World" comes when you consider when this song was released. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was essentially Kanye's comeback from the social exile he placed himself in after the infamous Taylor Swift incident at the VMAs. He was still dealing with the tragedy of his mother's passing, and he was clearly yearning for Kim Kardashian whilst still in a relationship with Amber Rose.
At this point in time Kanye probably felt the most lost he had ever felt up to that point, and this song is the perfect articulation of that sense of confusion.
