10 Most Underrated Led Zeppelin Songs

8. In My Time Of Dying

Led Zeppelin Albums
Swan Song

Coming in at just over 11 minutes long, this is Led Zeppelin's longest studio track. Although originally a traditional gospel, and having been recorded by several other musicians including Bob Dylan, the song is credited with being penned by all four members of the group.

With its whopping runtime, this track has been described as Zeppelin's "ultimate deconstruction" of the blues rock genre. The song is constantly shifting gears, which is to be expected to stop its 11 minute runtime from dragging.

However, this song was almost never played live, as Plant wasn't initially keen, due to suffering a nearly fatal car crash in 1975 and of course the song having such fatalistic lyrics. With an entire song focusing on being on one's death bed, it is understandable. However, it was still a part of live sets in 1977.

In My Time of Dying is acoustic blues given a full electric treatment that charges through, leaving a monumental performance.

More recently, The Amazons sampled the first two verses of the song, during their performance of their own song Doubt It at Reading and Leeds Festival 2019, before recording it for Radio 1's Live Lounge. The blending into this Led Zeppelin track as they finish their own song is unreal, especially to a fan of both bands hearing it live for the first time.

The song may be Led Zeppelin's longest, but that is by no means a bad thing, simply that a lot of people sadly overlook this absolute epic.
