10 Most Underrated Megadeth Songs
9. Kick The Chair
The intro here is on the 'Rust In Peace' level in regards to the guitars; just a ferocious kick-off to a relentless track here.
The lyrics here are about as dark as 'The System Has Failed' gets with everything from suicidal imagery to tooth extraction flaring up. It's pretty unsettling stuff to say the least and it gives this rock solid LP an extra dose of venom.
The lyrics also examine societal decay, execution, corruption and a general sense of doomed hopelessness. Coupled with an unwaveringly ferocious pace, it's four minutes of what makes Megadeth great: wild riffs, crazed tempos and a destructive attitude.
For Dave Mustaine, this was a long-awaited return to form after his unfortunate 2002 arm injury left him musically sidelined. After several more commercially friendly releases, it was clear the newly healed frontman was determined to return to his heavier roots.
In the absence of any other founding members, many tracks, 'Kick the Chair' in particular, exhibit Mustaine at his most singular. While the track lacks the unrelenting viciousness of his early days, it's an on point showcase of the thrash legend's abilities and musical tropes.
